Legal Tech Is on Fire - And AI Is Fueling the Growth

AI is dominating headlines in the legal sector, and for good reason.

In the past two weeks, two major AI-driven legal tech startups announced massive funding rounds:

  • Harvey AI is in talks to raise more than $250 million, pushing its valuation to $5 billion just two years after launching (Reuters). The company provides AI tools for general counsel teams, helping with tasks like document review, legal research, and compliance workflows.

  • Legora (formerly Leya) raised $80 million at a valuation of $675 million (Bloomberg Law). Its software aims to automate repetitive legal tasks such as contract drafting, document review, and legal database checks.

But these recent announcements aren’t outliers - they’re part of a larger trend. 💸 Global investment in legal tech reached nearly $2.2 billion in 2024 (Crunchbase), and in early 2025, the U.S. saw its highest investment quarter in legal tech history (Reuters). 📊 Analysts estimate that up to 44% of legal tasks could eventually be automated (Goldman Sachs). Tasks like data sorting, pattern recognition, and summarization are being transformed by AI, offering legal teams clear wins in productivity and cost savings.

Why It Matters

AI is being embraced for one simple reason: it works.

It speeds up complex processes, improves consistency, and gives legal professionals more time to focus on strategy and decision-making. Legal teams are using AI to handle more cases with leaner teams, deliver faster results, and create better client experiences.

But adoption isn’t without its risks. Client confidentiality, data security, and compliance remain top of mind. The best solutions in this space are those that combine advanced AI with strong security protocols and human oversight, ensuring trust and reliability remain central to legal work.
